A lot of
people engage in the diet plans. And it must be said that many of the proposed
arrangements only accentuates this phenomenon. However, there is little data on
their effectiveness and health consequences. For this purpose, four diets were
compared.
The
comparison was made on four plans: Plan Atkins are removed, including
carbohydrates (pasta, rice ??). In contrast, fats and proteins can be consumed willingness Régime
Weight Watchers Régime balanced low carb with decreasing portions and combining
psychological assistance from meetings group. Zone diet poor in carbohydrates
(with maintenance of glycemic index in some limitations) and rich in proteins. Ornish diet vegetarian and low in fat.
The
160 participants, aged 22-72 years were overweight or obese and also had
hypertension, high cholesterol and / or hyperglycaemia. Divided into four
groups, they were assigned to follow one of the plans for nearly two years. The
after one year, weight loss was 2.1 kg with the Atkins diet and 53% of
participants were still following this regime. For the Zone diet, the loss was
3.2 kg, with a membership rate regime of 65%. The Weight Watchers regime
allowed a loss of 3 kg (65% adherence), whereas weight loss was 3.3 kg with the
Ornish diet (50% adherence). The monitoring of each scheme was accompanied by a
reduction of about 10% of the LDL / HDL ratio (bad cholesterol / good
cholesterol). However, no significant effect was observed on blood pressure or
blood sugar.
The
authors find that the importance of weight loss was associated with the level
of membership in the plan assessed by patients themselves, and name the type of
regime.
In
conclusion, every diet reduced comparably modest and body weight. But overall,
and regardless of the type of plan, follow-up rate is low. However, any
increase in membership in the plan is associated with weight loss and a
reduction in cardiac risk factors, the most important.
Thus,
it is not the type of diet that counts, but the fact of follow conscientiously
long enough! We can also infer that too unbalanced diets (Atkins, Ornish) are
more difficult to follow for similar results. We must therefore focus on
dietary measures to rebalance power in the long term.
