NEW STRATEGY FOR WEIGHT LOSS: MANAGING YOUR STRESS

A diet and physical inactivity, we should add another risk factor for obesity: stress. If we suspected, the scientific evidence is now available, demonstrating that weight gain can be directly due to stress. Even better, a molecule involved was identified, opening up broad prospects

Stress is source of abdominal obesity

At equivalent power, some people gain weight as a result of stress. Excess fat seems favored by stress is particularly accumulates in the abdomen. Now we know that abdominal obesity more exposed to the risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes. In experimentally subjecting mice to stressful situations (aggressiveness congeners, exposure to cold ??), we see that they grow twice as as non-stressed mice, equivalent diet rich in fat and sugar. Indeed, if the plan is not high calorie but normal, stress has no effect on weight.

Neuropeptide Y governs fatty proliferation

Moreover, given that in cases of stress, cerebral production of a molecule called neuropeptide Y increases, researchers have tried to block this process. They used the same protocol as above, but in addition injected into the abdomen of mice under stress a substance capable of blocking the action of neuropeptide Y. Under these conditions, they will not grow more than the non-stressed mice. Conversely, the intra-abdominal injection of neuropeptide Y in two weeks causes a 50% increase of the abdominal tissue. Y peptide, the concentration is increased by stress, therefore promotes the proliferation of fat cells.

New treatment perspectives

This discovery opens a new path to the pharmaceutical industry for the development of new drugs to treat or prevent obesity. But this track could also be applied to greasy remodeling in the context of plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic. Indeed, it is conceivable to increase the volume of the cheeks, buttocks, lips ?? Meanwhile, people who wish to lose weight should also look at their stress levels. Logically, learn to fight and manage stress can help to lose weight or fat ??
